Oficial: el Scion FR-S se llamará Toyota 86

Tal y como especulamos cuando publicamos la noticia de la cancelación de la marca Scion, Toyota acaba de anunciar que el aclamado cupé deportivo Scion FR-S ahora llevará el nombre mundial de “Toyota 86”. El cambio se realizará tan pronto inicie la producción de los modelos del 2017.

Cuando hizo pública su decisión de eliminar a Scion, la automotriz enfatizó que dos de sus modelos, el FR-S y el nuevo hatchback deportivo iM pasarían a ser parte del lineup de la marca Toyota. Rápidamente surgió interés entre los entusiastas de los autos hacia un posible cambio de nombre para el FR-S ya que en todas partes del mundo es mercadeado como un Toyota y de acuerdo con la región, con uno de dos nombres: GT86 o simplemente 86. Lo más lógico entonces era, que si pasaba de Scion a Toyota, que se le diera uno de esos dos nombres.

No obstante, Toyota planificó desde el principio mantener el nombre “FR-S” cuando el cupé hiciera la transición de Scion a Toyota. Eso cambió durante estos días cuando la automotriz difundió un comunicado en el que expresó un cambio de parecer y confirmó que el nombre que va es “Toyota 86”. ¿La razón para el cambio? La gente lo quiso así.

El cambio de nombre coincide con un leve retoque de diseño para el FR-S, digo, el 86. Tanto al frente como atrás recibe nuevos focos, así como bumpers distintos. Son cambios que aunque menores, son notables pero aun así mantienen intactos la esencia del auto.

Puede que aquellos de ustedes que se fijan en los detalles pequeños noten un cambio casi diminuto, pero bastante importante y es en el famoso emblema con el número 86. Primero, bajó de posición. Antes estaba en la parte central superior de los guardalodos delanteros. Para el 2017 se queda en los guardalodos, pero en una posición más baja y más cercanos a las puertas.

Su famoso emblema cambia también. Ahor es un simple círculo con el número 86. Ya no tiene la pareja de cilindros horizontalmente opuestos.

Ahora bien, el cambio más notable en el emblema es que desaparece la pareja de pistones opuestos que hacían alusión al motor. Como ya todos sabrán a este punto, el 86 es un proyecto en conjunto entre Toyota y su filial Subaru. A lo largo del desarrollo y planificación, el diseño estuvo a cargo de Toyota y la mecánica, en manos de Subaru. Por tanto, el motor es de Subaru y como muchos saben, una de las cartas de presentación de Subaru es su uso exclusivo de motores planos o de cilindros horizontalmente opuestos. Pues ese detallito desapareció del emblema. Ahora es una simple insignia circular con el número 86.

La presentación oficial del Toyota 86 del 2017 será esta semana en el salón de autos de Nueva York. Precisamente, MotorShow PR anda por la Ciudad de los Rascacielos para cubrir los días de prensa de esta exhibición.   115. I’ve had mine over a year and I’ve been in the sea and swimming pools with it. It has also had lots of abuse from my 3 year old who loves to both use it and throw it around. So far, it has been a joy to use. The only real drawbacks have been the lack of optical viewfinder and the lens position. Fingers seem to be a popular photo subject.I’d recommend it (as a 2nd camera) to anyone.

(jammie time) the only thing I can see as an issue is she is “afraid of her bed, afraid of her room…monsters.” We do the monster spray with air freshener and “the dog will eat then outside.” But sometimes she will wake us at say 2am talking about the monsters…
